Harrisburg – March 23, 2020 – Sen. Anthony H. Williams (D- Delaware/Philadelphia) sent a letter today to Chief Justice of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, Thomas Saylor, to request the release of inmates in Pennsylvania state prisons incarcerated for parole violations be released to mitigate the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic among Pennsylvania’s prison population.

“At a time when all Americans are at great risk of contracting this disease, we must demonstrate compassion for those who pose no real danger to society and act quickly before their health is impacted,” Williams said. “These are extraordinary circumstances that require extraordinary actions to proactively protect the health and safety of all citizens.”

Williams also requested that no new detainees be filed for probation violations in Pennsylvania.
