PHILADELPHIA, Dec. 21, 2012 — More than 250 children and their families enjoyed a holiday celebration, complete with gifts, crafts, and a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus at the annual “Gifts for the Holidays” party and toy giveaway on Dec. 20.

State Sen. Anthony H. Williams, along with Lincoln Day Educational Center, state Rep. Ron Waters and state Rep.-elect Jordan Harris, hosted the event to make the holidays more memorable for local children ages 2 to 13 in the 8th Senatorial District whose families were referred by area social service agencies and houses of faith.

“This is such a joyous time of year, and every child deserves the opportunity to celebrate the holiday season,” Williams said. “The excitement and delight on the children’s faces, and the realization of the generosity of the community, really embodied the true meaning of Christmas at the party.”

Children and their families were treated to Christmas songs from two members of the Penn Wood High School choir under the direction of teacher Judy Jordan and participated in fun-filled activities, including a magician, a kids craft corner and tree ornament making, face painting, and balloon art. They also enjoyed a story book reading corner, took pictures with Santa and Mrs. Claus, and helped trim a Christmas tree.

In an outpouring of seasonal generosity, individuals and organizations in the community donated new toys and books in the weeks leading up to this holiday event.

Williams said he is grateful to the community partners who helped make the event possible, including Advance America, Axcess Financial, PA Consumer Credit Association, Campus Apartments, Community College of Philadelphia, Felton Hayman Construction Co., Pagano Enterprises, WAWA, Dean Owen, Esquire, GN Restaurant Group/McDonalds, Keystone Mercy Health Plan, Sugarhouse Casino, Toys for Tots, Columbus Construction Co., Industry XIX, Miley Entertainment, and Premier Luxury Rentals.
