PHILADELPHIA, Nov. 4, 2011 — The approaching holiday season brings thoughts of warm, loving environments filled with bountiful gifts for many families. But for those who are struggling, this time of year is anything but joyful.

State Sen. Anthony H. Williams, in partnership with Lincoln Day Educational Center, are launching their “Gifts for the Holidays” initiative to make the season brighter for local children in need.

“The holidays are a magical time for children, but when a family is struggling to make ends meet, it can bring pain and anxiety to parents who want their children to be happy but can’t afford gifts,” Williams said. “We are seeking the public’s help to ensure that local children have a memorable holiday.”

They are accepting donations of new toys, books and gift cards for children between the ages of 2 and 13. Monetary donations are also welcomed.

Donations may be dropped off by Dec. 5 at Lincoln Day Educational Center, 1839 Ellsworth St. in Philadelphia.

Call 215-492-2980 or e-mail Ali Robinson for additional drop-off locations and more information.
