Harrisburg – February 10, 2017 – State Sen. Anthony H. Williams (D-Philadelphia/Delaware), the family of Jayanna Powell and state and local officials will be holding a news conference on Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2017 at 10 a.m. at Ren’s Auto Repair Collision, 4542 Baltimore Ave in Philadelphia concerning the introduction of “Jay Alerts” legislative package.

“Jay Alerts” calls for the establishment of a hit-and-run advisory alert system.  The purpose of the legislation is to reduce hit-and-run accidents and quickly identify and apprehend motorists who flee the scene of an accident involving serious bodily injury or death.

“Jay Alerts” is named in honor of Jayanna Powell, who was struck and killed late last year while walking home from school.  The driver fled the scene and attempted to hide his involvement by taking the automobile to a suburban repair shop.
