PHILADELPHIA, SEPT. 24, 2010 — State Sen. Anthony H. Williams and officials from the 52nd Street YMCA invite the public to an upcoming Health Walk and Fair.

The free event will take place on Saturday, Oct. 2, rain or shine, at Laura Sims Skate House, 63rd and Walnut streets.

Stretching starts at 8 a.m. and the 5K walk begins at 8:30 a.m. This year, bicyclists are invited for a bicycle ride starting at 9 a.m. at the newly repaved Cobbs Creek bike trail.

The health fair runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with free exercise and cooking classes, oral health screenings, giveaways and more. Residents do not have to participate in the walk or bike ride in order to attend the health fair. All are welcome.

“No matter how physically fit you are, everyone is welcome to participate in a day of exercise and healthy living advice,” Williams said. “I encourage everyone to join me, whether you want to participate in the walk, the bike ride or the health fair.”

Groups are welcome to put together a team for the walk or bike ride. There must be four people per team, but large groups can organize multiple teams. Individuals are also welcome to participate. Pre-register your team by e-mailing your list of participants to Desaree K. Jones at djones@pasenate.com.
