PHILADELPHIA, April 14, 2015 — Area high school teams that have been competing in Sen. Anthony Hardy Williams’ “Mobile Business App Challenge” will learn who the three finalists are Wednesday, April 15, when the University of Pennsylvania picks the winner of its “AppItUp Challenge.”
Teams from 10 Philadelphia high schools in the senator’s 8th Senatorial District were invited to submit their ideas for a new mobile business application.
The three finalists will be named after the University of Pennsylvania’s Penn Center for Innovation and PCI Ventures names the winner of its “AppItUp Challenge.”
The winner of Penn’s app development contest will be picked after five finalists present their app prototypes. The champion of this competition will win a $50,000 investment from the Ben Franklin Technology Partners, one of the nation’s longest-running technology-based economic development programs.
The winner in Sen. Williams’ “Mobile Business App Challenge” will win $5,000 worth of in-kind business services for digital media strategy, web design, social media publishing, and one year of mentoring from IG Marketing. The winning team will also have its app developed.
The three finalists named tomorrow will have the opportunity to learn how to refine their business plans in preparation for the selection of the winning concept, which will be announced May 7.
