Phila. PA-October 25, 2010–Pennsylvania State Senator Anthony Hardy Williams (D) 8th will co-host a crime prevention forum in South Philadelphia tomorrow. The forum will be held at the Marion Anderson Recreation Center at 17th and Fitzwater Street beginning at 6:30 p.m. Senator Williams will co-host the forum with State Representative Jewell Williams (D) Philadelphia. Representatives Kenyatta Johnson (D) and Babette Josephs (D), both members of the Pennsylvania House Philadelphia delegation, will also participate.

Representatives from law enforcement, crime prevention organizations and officials from the city of Philadelphia’s 311 and 911 system will be in attendance. “I am tired of attending anti-crime rallies and prayer vigils,” said Senator Williams. “As a community we must take a tough, organized and proactive approach in conjunction with law enforcement to reduce crime. Arming our citizens with crime prevention techniques is very helpful.”

Senator Williams has been a leader in efforts to reduce crime and enhance crime prevention methods. He fought for state funding to create the gun task force which recently made its 500th arrest and confiscated its 1,000th gun. Senator Williams also recently led the successful fight to acquire additional funding for the state witness protection program. He also introduced SB 111 which would punish the intimidation of witnesses via cyberspace.
