In January, I was joined by a bipartisan coalition of lawmakers and advocacy groups to re-introduce my probation reform legislation. New this year, I have partnered with Republican Senator Camera Bartolotta to push for greater transparency and justice in the county probation system. Senate Bill 14 will remove incarceration as a response to technical violations except in the most egregious cases, limit the ability of judges to revoke probation in an arbitrary and capricious manner, and incentivize good behavior through automatic termination of probation after eighteen months. I’ll continue to update you on SB 14’s status as we move it through the legislative process.
