PHILADELPHIA, April 13, 2017 — State Sen. Anthony H. Williams and state Rep. Joanna McClinton are hosting a free document shredding event on Saturday, May 6 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Cobbs Creek Shopping Center, 58th Street and Baltimore Avenue in Philadelphia.

Individuals are welcome to bring documents they no longer need that contain personal information, including unneeded papers from taxes, financial and medical records, and more. Paper clips should be removed from all documents going into the shredder. The event is open to individuals, not businesses.

“We are all at risk of becoming victims of consumer fraud and identity theft, so shredding documents is a simple way to protect yourself,” said Sen. Williams (D-Philadelphia/Delaware). “I urge folks to stop by to safely shred their documents and speak with our staff if you need assistance.”

“Shredding documents not only helps protect our identity but it’s also a safe way to get rid of unneeded papers that may be unnecessarily taking up space in your home,” said Rep. McClinton (D-Philadelphia). “I look forward to assisting constituents at our event.”

Staff of Sen. Williams and Rep. McClinton will also provide help with state issues, such as applying for CHIP (the Children’s Health Insurance Program), Medicare, and the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program.

The event is sponsored by the Burns family.
