| Grays Ferry Farmers Market Opening Aug. 31 |
| Thanks to the efforts of Sen. Anthony H. Williams and Reps. Kenyatta Johnson and Babette Josephs, the Food Trust is opening the Grays Ferry Farmers Market in South Philadelphia on Aug. 31. It will be open on Tuesdays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. through October in Peace Plaza, on Wharton Street between 29th and Hollywood streets. It will feature locally grown, seasonal fruits and vegetables. The market will accept Farmers Market Nutrition Program vouchers given to seniors and WIC recipients, as well as Access cards/SNAP (food stamp) benefits. For every $5 spent with their Food Stamps customers will receive an additional $2 in Food Bucks to be spent on fruits and vegetables at the market. Food Bucks are part of the city-wide Get Healthy Philly campaign, a project of the Philadelphia Public Health Department. Stay tuned for an announcement on the upcoming grand opening ceremony this fall. |
